Faith Transitions
Whether you're beginning to question long held beliefs, deconstructing your faith, or healing from religious trauma, faith transition therapy offers a safe space to explore your spiritual identity. Navigating a shift in belief can bring up confusion, grief, relief, or even fear, especially when your faith community has shaped your values, relationships, or sense of self.
In therapy, you're not judged or pushed in any direction. Instead, I’ll meet you with curiosity, respect, and space to process what matters most to you.
A Nonjudgmental Approach to Faith, Doubt, and Everything In Between
I specialize in supporting clients across the entire spectrum of faith, those who are active members of their church, those who are questioning, and those who’ve stepped away entirely. Whether you're Mormon, ex-Mormon, culturally affiliated, or unsure of where you land, I meet you exactly where you are.
My goal is not to change your beliefs, but to help you connect more deeply to your personal truth. That might mean rebuilding your relationship with spirituality, working through religious guilt, or creating a new value system that aligns with your lived experience.
Common Challenges During a Faith Transition
A spiritual or religious transition can impact every area of life. In therapy, we often work through:
Anxiety around questioning or “losing” faith
Grief over changing beliefs or strained relationships
Identity confusion after leaving a high demand religion
Religious trauma or fear of punishment
Scrupulosity and religious OCD
Navigating marriage or parenting during belief shifts
Rebuilding meaning, purpose, and self trust
You're not alone in this. Many clients share that even just saying things out loud in a safe space is incredibly healing.
Healing from Scrupulosity and Religious Perfectionism
When faith becomes tangled with anxiety, self criticism, or rigid expectations, it can feel suffocating. I work with many individuals navigating scrupulosity (a form of OCD focused on religious or moral fears), as well as those recovering from religious perfectionism. Together, we untangle those patterns, rebuild self compassion, and help you reconnect with a more grounded, authentic version of yourself.
Faith Transition Therapy in Utah and Beyond
Living in a religiously saturated culture like Utah can intensify the emotional complexity of a faith transition. Whether you're leaving the LDS Church, still attending, or walking a middle path, you may feel isolated or afraid of being misunderstood. I offer therapy for Mormons, ex-Mormons, and post-Mormons who are seeking clarity, peace, and support during this deeply personal time.
Through telehealth, I also work with clients in Washington and Illinois who are navigating similar transitions in their communities.
This Is Your Journey, You Deserve to Explore It Fully
There is no one “right” way to go through a faith transition. Some clients find a new relationship to the faith they grew up in. Others leave entirely. Some rebuild a spiritual life outside of religion. Some don’t. Therapy is here to support your exploration, not define it for you.
If you're questioning, searching, or simply trying to make sense of things, you're not broken. You're growing.
Let’s work together to help you feel more whole, more grounded, and more at peace with who you are.
